This is the Otemon Gate in the sannomaru. There are 5 original yaguramon style gates at Hirosaki Castle. All of them are Important Cultural Property. This is the one from which visitors normally enter first. It may be hard to see from the pictures on this site, but the pitch of the roofs on these gates is actually steeper than most yagura and gates at other castles around Japan. This is because there is much more snow in Hirosaki so a steeper roof will help the snow slide off and prevent damage to the roof.
