Notice the holes in this rock that make a rectangular outline. They are called ya ana. It literally means "arrow holes" but they are actually holes for wedges. When they mined or split up stones they would first carve a series of these holes into the rock. Next they insert wedges into the holes and strike the wedges to split the rock.
