History

Genga-yashiki is thought to have been the fortified residence of Katō Genga. It was built at the end of the 15th century. The Katō Clan had prior to that inhabited the Kamigatō-yashiki (see Kamigatou Yashiki) a little to the north. Genga-yashiki was a square-shaped compound measuring about 60m on each side, protected by earthen ramparts.

Visit Notes

Genga-yashiki is now the site of a local temple, Myōfukuji, and a cemetery, and no ruins remain.
