Nishinohara Fort

History
Nishinohara-toride was built on a terrace overlooking the Shige River. It was bounded by deep creeks. The history of the fort is not well understood and it is postulated to have been established by the Endō Clan, or alternatively the Makino Clan, before the rise of the Takeda Clan in Kai. This would make the fort very old. It occured to me that the high elevation and surrounding terrain may have protected a classical bukeyashiki (samurai manor house).
Visit Notes
No ruins remain of Nishinohara-toride as the site has been developed over with roads and vineyards. There is a very large stele to mark the site, however, erected by the mayor of Enzan Municipality (now part of Kōshū Municipality).
