MikawaOrojou (5).JPG

The historical record is sparse, but it is believed that Orojō was constructed by Nakane Shizawemon as his residence. The Nakane Clan served the Matsudaira Clan as vassals. Nakane Masashige served Okazaki Nobuyasu and, later, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Orojō is believed abandoned by 1591.

Visit Notes

Orojō is a fortified residence site located in the periurban Oro neighbourhood, formerly Oro Village, of Okazaki City. The plain-side area of Oro is mostly developed over, and the mountainous area of the neighbourhood is made up of small valleys filled with terraced fields. The site of the 'Old Residence of Oro Village' is in the northern valley. The site today is made up of vegetable patches on a small, jutting hillock rising about 5m high, attached to a forested mountain leg. The hill has been smartly terraced and some stone blocks have been piled for use as retaining walls. The stone walls look modern, but the terracing may be older though it's impossible to know. This is private property and I couldn't get too close.
