Background
The Tamura-bukeyashiki, a samurai residence in the castle town of Ôno, Echizen Province, was built in 1827. On the house's eastern side is dorui (earthen embankments), which is unusual to see around urban bukeyashiki. This dorui is actually thought to have been further surrounded by a water moat (where there is now a carpark) and was built as part of the Echizen-Ônojō by Kanamori Nagachika. So the dorui is part of the castle's defences that the Tamura house has sat behind for nearly two centuries. The patriarch of the residence was Tamura Matazaemon.
