Yasuda Yoshisada Yakata
History
Yasuda-Yoshisada-yakata was the manor hall of Lord Yasuda Yoshisada, a member of the Kai-Minamoto Clan. At the Battle of Fuji River in 1180 the Kai-Minamoto scored a major victory over the Taira Clan during the Genpei War (1180-1185). Minamoto Yoritomo became shōgun in 1192. Although the Kai-Minamoto had helped him during the war, they had become too powerful for his liking. The Kai-Minamoto were eventually purged by Minamoto Yoritomo for suspected treason and Yasuda Yoshisada was executed in 1193.
Visit Notes
The site of Yasuda-Yoshisada-yakata is now a temple, Saiganji, and a residential area in Kobarahigashi, Yamanashi Municipality. The old residence of the Yasuda family is also located here, though there is not claimed to be any direct relation with Yasuda Yoshisada. But their house appears very handsome at least! I found no ruins. Some castle bloggers say that there are the remains of dorui (earthen ramparts) at another temple nearby, but I couldn't find this other temple.
