Description This is a picture of the same bridge and moat from the previous picture, but looking from the opposite side. You can see how this section of the moat sticks out from the main moat wall and runs parallel to the bridge across the moat. Originally, a yagura stood here to provide flanking fire to any attackers trying to cross the bridge. In the far distance you can see another one of these yagura platforms so the bridge could be protected from both sides. This type of defensive structure is called yokoya gakari or yokoya gake.
