Fuseya Castle
History
Fuseyajō was constructed by Kinoshita Tōkichirō (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) under the orders of Oda Nobunaga in the middle 16th century in order to expand Oda territory into Mino Province. Some accounts propose a construction method for this castle similar to that of Sunomatajō by floating pre-assembled structures down river in order to hasten construction. In fact, the very same builders are credited with building both sites. These accounts may be simply fiction.
During the Komaki-Nagakute campaign in 1584 the garrison commander was Fuseya Ichibē, a vassal of the Hiroaka Clan. Fuseyajō played a role as a border fort during that conflict.
Visit Notes
Fuseyajō is a hirajiro (flatland castle) ruin in Ginan Township, Hashima County. Ginan is mostly what I call agri-suburban, with fields interspersed with housing plots. The ruins of Fuseyajō can be found in a bamboo grove between houses. There is a signboard for the castle where the bamboo affronts the road. To find the ruins one has to plunge into the grove where can be found the remains of what looks like a corner segment of dorui (earthen ramparts).
