History

The Hayakawa Clan was founded by Hayakwa Masafuku, a son of Takeda Nobuyoshi, in the 12th century. Hayakawa-yashiki was the fortified residence of Hayakawa Hanbē, a vassal of Takeda Shingen, in the Sengoku period. Hanbē's brother, Hayakawa Sanzaemon, led the Nakao Gun'eki-shū, a group of warrios who served Takeda Shingen. Nakao is the name of the village the yashiki was located in and was also the original clan name of the Hayakawa before Masafuku changed it.

Visit Notes

No remains; the site of Hayakawa-yashiki is now a residential plot with ugly houses. Fortunately the area still has many fine old homes in the vernacular architecture. I took pictures of these, as well as a single photograph of a sad looking green space in the middle of the modern housing plot.
