Komesu Castle
History
This castle was built by Komesu Aji sometime between the 13th to 15th century. Komesu Castle was an outlying fortress of Nanzan Castle. It is believed to have been abandoned after the fall of Nanzan Castle in 1429.
Visit Notes
Komesu Castle is the second most overgrown Ryukyuan gusuku that I have visited so far. It is a small gusuku with only two baileys. However, very little of the outer bailey can be seen beneath all the undergrowth. Stone stairs lead up to a gate ruin which is the entrance to the inner bailey. The inner bailey is also covered in a lot of undergrowth and weeds. However, it is still possible to get close to one section of the nozura-zumi stone walls and photograph it. Like at many other gusukus, there are habu snake warning signs.
