Mori Castle (Mikawa)
History
Morijō was the main base of the Mori Clan. The Mori were vassals of the Nakajō Clan.
Visit Notes
Morijō is a castle site in the Mori neighbourhood of Toyota City. Although no or few visible ruins remain, the site is now that of ‘Eight Pillars Shrine’ and Sōne Historical Park, as well as flowery fields and rural homesteads. Only the shape of the terrain is suggestive of any fortification site, the centre of which is now a homestead on high ground, but I enjoyed wondering around the area. Particularly, the history park has a restored pit dwelling from the pre-literate age, and those little huts are always nice to find.
Note: This is Morijō in the historical Kamo County (roughly analogous to Toyota Municipality) of Mikawa, but there is another Morijō in Mikawa, in historical Hoi County (roughly analogous to the municipalities of Toyokawa and Gamagôri).
