Kokura Castle I gave the castle 1 1/2 stars not because it disappointed me from the collection viewpoint or the state it was in; my bitter disappointment came from seeing its sad situation: a beautiful reminder if the past is now completely surrounded by tall, futuristic (sometimes ridiculous) buildings, the view from the top floor is sad and the state if the Japanese garden next to it made me want to cry. This is the ONLY castle where I didn't take scenery pictures at the top floor. That half star I allowed myself to offer was for the diorama on the 2nd floor (they say it's the largest if its kind in Japan and it has a 4 min. viewing) and the lovely tea serving at the garden, where they prepare the tea in front of you, but it's not as formal and nerve wrecking as an official tea ceremony.

Nakatsu Castle Beautiful view, beautiful collection, tricky location. If you're directionally challenged like me, do yourself a favor, grab a cab; it's 600¥ one way.
Nijo Castle
Nishio Castle The castle is basically a three-storied turret. The inside can be visited, but no exhibits are available and it`s difficult to see the view from the last level. My reasons for grating three stars: entry to the turret and museum is free, the museum guides are very enthusiastic and offer ample explanations regarding the castle history and the tea house located in the ninomaru area. The tea house has an amazing garden, aa beautiful view of the castle, you can take pictures inside, the staff is frendly and informative. And of course, you get a chance to enjoy a wonderful matcha set (one of the best I had in Japan; personally, I think it beat anything I had in Kyoto). If you`re in the area and you have time, give it a chance.
Odawara Castle The main keep us under renovation until April 2016 (they're reinforcing it for earthquakes). Still, if you're going that way anywsy, the castle grounds are beautiful. Just avoid taking pictures that include the main keep - a crane in the middle of your pic will cancel the rest of the scenery.

Okayama Castle
Okazaki Castle
Osaka Castle
Shimabara Castle
Shuri Castle
Takashima Castle
